Hello. I’m Tim. Welcome to Tim’s Blog.
You can read more about the blog itself here. In case you wanted to know a little bit about the person behind it, then here goes:
In brief:
My full name is Tim Davies. I’m 23, based in the UK (currently living in Leicester), married to Rachel and working as a freelance consultant on youth participation. I’m a graduate in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, and I spend my spare time cooking and enjoying cheese and wine.
In a bit more detail:
My work focusing on promoting the empowerment of young people as decision makers and actors for social change. I work primarily through Practical Participation on projects that either focus on involving young people in complex decision making (e.g. influencing the substance of government policy) or that bring together technology and youth participation.
I studied PPE at Oriel College, Oxford where I pursued eclectic interests including political theory, epistemology, the philosophy of the latter Wittgenstein, international relations and the politics of South Asia.
I’m an active social justice campaigner – with a particular focus on practical solutions to global challenges. In particular I’ve a background in Fairtrade and Socially Responsible Investment campaigning – and for a brief period worked as a communications manager for a fair trade shop.
I’ve a long standing interest in technology – currently finding myself often in a technology stewardship role. After developing my own Content Management System aged 15 to run a local young people’s newspaper, I’ve since been active developing with and contributing to the Drupal Content Management System. I’ve also been known to develop customized Management Information Systems for youth led grantmaking, and online databases for shared learning on organisational change.
Rachel is a freelance community artist and her blog is coming soon.
With regards to cheese, I’m particularly partial to a good Stilton or Cambonzola , washed down with a glass (or two) of Fairtrade wine.
An invitation:
I’m a friendly sort of soul, and always happy to help and contribute to conversation where I can. So you are most welcome to respond to anything on Tim’s Blog either by adding your comments, or dropping me a line via e-mail.
Why the name?
My name or the name of the blog? My name – um, you’ll have to ask my parents on that one. The blog is rather literally titled as it spans a range of topics and attempts to weave together threads from the perspective of my personal reflections. It’s organizing principle is my own individual learning journey, shared here in case any parts of it prove to be useful to anyone else. So, as I’m called Tim, and it’s a blog – Tim’s Blog seemed to work.

Hello Tim
I found your blog through the YoMo conference website. My colleague Tiana Golden is also running a session during the event.
I am the Programme Manager for a new project focussed on attracting young people into Virtual Volunteering. We are looking to create a whole raft of new projects that young people can get involved with, which primarily involve the use of online tools.
It would be great to hear your thoughts on Virtual Volunteering and whether you'd like to chat in more detail about our work?
Thanks
Damien

Hi Tim,
Interesting stuff, I'm very keen on the idea of social networking as a tool to facilatate participation, particularly of young people who find it difficult to access traditional youth work settings. At any rate, we are having a conference here in October and I am trying to organise an input on social networking and participation. Do you have any interest in sharing some of your work, via the web? let me know, cheers,
matthew
