Haliburton

Haliburton is a company providing logistics and infra structure services, most notably to the military and the oil and gas industries. It recently managed to get $500m worth of contracts working in post war Iraq, despite a history of overspending and account fraud.

However, dodgy accounting pales in comparison with Haliburton’s blatant links with the Bush administration (the CEO of Haliburton between 1995 and 2000? None other than Dick Cheney).

In 2001, Haliburton secured an agreement called Logistics Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP), which says that the federal government has ‘open-ended mandate and budget to send Brown and Root [a subsidiary company of Haliburton] anywhere in the world to run military operations at a profit’ (quote from Corporate Watch).

In the words of Democrat representative Henry Waxman, 'It is simply remarkable that a single company could earn so much money from the war.'
